We raise several different breeds of hogs including Berkshire and Tamworth. These breeds are considered “heritage breeds” meaning they date back to before hogs were specifically bred for confinement operations.
Our hogs are raised on a mixture of pasture and forests. The eat a diverse diet of grasses, roots, vegetables, grains, grubs, and nuts. We supplement their feed with non-GMO non-soy hog feed as well as spent grains from a local brewery.
In comparison to hogs raised in confinement our pastured hogs produce rich flavored, nutrient dense, marbled meat. We have never given our pork any hormones nor antibiotics and is good eating!
These hogs are then raised on our chemical free lush pastures where they will obtain at least 25% of their diet from grazing and foraging. The balance of their diet is chemical free and GMO free transitional organic grains (no genetically modified grains and no soy here!). The pigs are handled humanely and get to act like a real hog, outdoors in the sunshine, fresh air and dirt (they really, really love the dirt part).
